Fourth Annual Charity Bike Ride to Benefit Children's Hospitals
Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) and
Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley will host a three-day, 100-mile charity bike ride
from Gettysburg to Annville to raise money for three children's hospitals in
Pennsylvania.
The "Scarnati/Cawley 100" will begin at 9:30 on Friday,
September 14, at West Broadway, Gettysburg College in Gettysburg and end at
11:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 16, at the Lt. Governor's residence at Ft.
Indiantown Gap in Annville, where proceeds will be presented to hospital
officials.
Scarnati said money raised during the race will go to the
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and
the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.
"Over the past three years, through the generous
contributions of many people and organizations, we have raised more than
$400,000 for the Children's Hospitals in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia," Scarnati
said. "This year, we are very pleased to also be riding for Penn State
Hershey's Hummingbird Program, which helps children with life-threatening
illnesses."
Scarnati said that so far this year, $138,000 has been
raised for the three hospitals and more than 50 riders will be taking part in
the three-day event.
"My family has experienced first-hand the dedicated and
compassionate care provided by children's hospitals," Scarnati added. "We have
some of the top pediatric institutions in the country and it is an honor to ride
for them and the many children and families they provide care to."
"This year, my wife Suzanne will be representing our family
and riding for this great cause, and I'm so pleased that we are helping to make
a difference in the lives of so many kids and families," said Cawley. "We have
had overwhelming support and great turnout for the event – it really is
rewarding to see people coming together for this cause."
The schedule will be as follows:
September 14 -- Gettysburg Battlefield to York
September 15 -- York to Hershey September 16 -- Hershey to Annville
