Folmer Bill Passes Senate
HARRISBURG – Senator Mike Folmer's (R-Lebanon)
Senate Bill 1591 this week passed the full Senate.
The bill would promote government efficiency by eliminating the requirement
for medical malpractice and self-insurers to file annual reports with the
Pennsylvania Insurance Department. The report lists every medical malpractice
claim and resolution, and according to industry experts, these reports are not
read nor used for any purpose. Folmer said the current law is a classic case of
government bureaucracy, and "doing something because it's always been done that
way, or is required by some law or regulation but no one knows why it's done."
The bill now goes to the House.
