HARRISBURG, Pa (March 16, 2021) –– Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward will join the Pennsylvania Health Care Association (PHCA) on Thursday, March 17, 2022 for a Day of Caring event at Hempfield Manor skilled nursing facility in Greensburg, Pa.
To mark the two-year anniversary of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, PHCA staff and local elected leaders will roll up their sleeves and volunteer their time to work alongside frontline workers caring for nursing home residents. Volunteer work will immediately follow a brief press conference that acknowledges our healthcare heroes and addresses current staffing challenges.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a workforce crisis in long-term care, causing worker fatigue and issues with residents trying to access care. During PHCA’s Day of Caring, nursing home workers will be reminded that they are appreciated and that they are still healthcare heroes with critical roles in serving their community.
Those volunteering their time to work alongside nursing home staff will serve lunch to residents. Hempfield Manor staff will also receive a catered lunch from a local business.
Volunteers will include:
- Zach Shamberg, president and CEO, PHCA
- Kerri Romes, president, HCF Management
- Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward (Westmoreland County)
- Representative Eric Nelson (Westmoreland County)
- Members of Congressman Guy Reschenthaler’s staff
Members of the press are invited to Hempfield Manor to cover the volunteer work. Hempfield Manor has established protocols to help combat the spread of any illness, including COVID-19. Those protocols are outlined below.
If a member of the press plans to attend the event, an RSVP is recommended to help the facility in preparation of increased visitors. Please RSVP to Eric Heisler at eheisler@phca.org.
Infection control protocols for visitors:
