HARRISBURG – Today, the Senate Transportation Committee approved unanimously a bill sponsored by Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) allowing doorless driving for vehicles such as Jeeps and Broncos in Pennsylvania.
“It was recently brought to my attention by some of my constituents that Pennsylvania is the only state where driving without doors, except for off-roading, is illegal,” Robinson said. “They requested I do something so they and others here in the Commonwealth can experience the same freedoms and enjoyments that every other state provides. Therefore, I am proud to present this legislation to my Senate colleagues.”
Senate Bill 298 allows doorless driving for vehicles such as Jeeps and Broncos in Pennsylvania. The legislation adheres to logistical and safety standards important to residents and law enforcement, including requiring side view mirrors when doors are removed and upholding the seatbelt protections in place for minors.
The bill heads to the full Senate for consideration.
