HARRISBURG – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46) to allow safety inspections to be performed on motorcycles registered in Pennsylvania year-round received support from the Senate Transportation Committee today.
Even though motorcycles can be purchased and operated in Pennsylvania roadways throughout the year, the state’s Vehicle Code currently mandates safety inspections can only be performed from March to October.
Senate Bill 1147 would eliminate that restriction so motorcycle operators can enjoy uniformity and consistency. Motorcycle registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation would continue to be tied to the month the vehicle is to be inspected.
“Preventing safety inspections for a third of the year – even though people are allowed to operate their motorcycles all year long – serves no purpose. It simply creates frustration for owners who are motivated to keep our roads safe,” Bartolotta said. “I am grateful my bill received committee support and look forward to its continued advancement so people don’t have to continue dealing with this unnecessary roadblock.”
The bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
