HARRISBURG – Yesterday, Sen. Elder Vogel’s (R-47) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) expansion legislation, Senate Bill 414, unanimously advanced from the Pennsylvania House and now heads to Governor Josh Shapiro for approval.
“We are now nearing the finish line for this critical piece of legislation as we wait for Gov. Shapiro’s signature,” said Vogel. “Expanding access to sexual assault nurse practitioners in Pennsylvania will provide reassurance to sexual assault survivors that they will receive thorough and efficient treatment following the already traumatic experience they endured. I thank my colleagues in both chambers for helping advance this bill which I know will truly make a difference.”
Senate Bill 414 would expand the existing Penn State University SAFE-T Program; allow hospitals to establish individual Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) programs at their facility; and require the Department of Health to publish a comprehensive list of each SANE care-providing hospital on its website by county.
